Why Cosmo Metals Is One to Watch as Drilling Gets Underway

    Dear Reader,

Cosmo Metals is a small company fishing in some very interesting waters.

Its strategy is simple: look for discoveries close to known mineral systems in districts where the geology has already proven it can deliver.

And right now, the company is trading at just A$6.5 million despite the fact drilling is currently underway testing targets beside one of Western Australia’s best-known gold systems.

Cosmo is still early-stage—there are no guarantees, and the drill bit will ultimately decide how much attention the company attracts. But with good assets, a clear strategy, and newsflow building, the opportunity here is clear:

    • If drilling starts to point towards a meaningful discovery, the market may have to take a much closer look.

Let’s look at the company in more detail…

    Kanowna—Right project, right neighbourhood

Cosmo’s immediate focus is the Kanowna Gold Project in Western Australia.

The asset sits just 13km north of Kalgoorlie, one of the world’s great gold mining centres, and lies adjacent to Northern Star’s +7Moz Kanowna Belle gold mine.

It’s also close to roads, infrastructure, and multiple processing plants—one of the key points managing director Ian Prentice made when we spoke to him recently.

In junior exploration, location can make a big difference. A discovery in a remote area may need to be large enough to support standalone development. A discovery close to mills and major operators can have more ways to create value.

Cosmo’s aim is to find a major discovery. But even a smaller find could become strategically relevant if it sits close to infrastructure and operators looking for ore feed.

Geologically, more than 8km of the Kanowna Shear Zone—a key regional structure for mineralisation—runs through Kanowna.

Previous shallow drilling has identified supergene gold and widespread pathfinder elements, exactly the kind of signals explorers look for in gold systems.

    • The question now is whether those signals point to something larger at depth.

    Turning the drill bit

To begin finding the answer, Cosmo has now started RC drilling at Kanowna.

Thisfirst phaseis testing structural and sediment-hosted gold targets, focused mainly on the western extension of the Don Alvaro prospect and the Adder trend.

    • At Don Alvaro, previous drilling returned strong shallow results, including 18m at 5.3g/t gold from 24m and 10m at 4.7g/t gold from 32m.

    • At Adder, the attraction is scale. The prospect is defined by a +2km gold-in-saprolite anomaly, coincident with pathfinder elements along the Kanowna Shear.

Importantly, much of the project remains only lightly tested below 100m.

And that’s the key point. Kanowna has seen successful historic work, but not the kind of deeper drilling needed to properly test the target models Cosmo is now pursuing.

The comparison with the nearby, 1Moz+ Invincible gold deposit at St Ives is useful here. That project became a major discovery only after deeper drilling tested the right setting.

Cosmo is not yet saying Kanowna is another Invincible. But Invincible is a reminder that shallow drilling can miss major structural gold systems if it does not properly test the right setting.

The company’s planned RC holes are marked with green stars in the map below…

Cosmo has also locked in a diamond drill rig for the second phase of drilling, focused on a 400m deep hole at Laguna Verde.

This hole is co-funded by the Western Australian Government’s Exploration Incentive Scheme, giving the target some external technical validation.

Laguna Verde sits near the interpreted extension of the Fitzroy Fault, an important structure associated with gold mineralisation at nearby Kanowna Belle. Previous shallow drilling at Laguna Verde returned anomalous gold, including 3m at 5.1g/t gold and 24m at 0.23g/t gold.

Now, Cosmo is aiming to test whether the mineralised structure continues at depth, which could help confirm whether Laguna Verde has the ingredients for a larger gold system.

You can see the location of the planned drill hole below…

    What success could mean

The catalyst sequence here is clear: RC drilling at Don Alvaro and Adder, then a deeper diamond hole at Laguna Verde, then results.

For a company of Cosmo’s size, success in any one area could be meaningful. As such, the near-term investment case is not complicated:

    • If Cosmo intersects meaningful gold mineralisation, particularly in a way that supports a broader system, the current valuation could begin to look light.

Kanowna has the right address, the right structures, historic gold hits, and proximity to major infrastructure.

And while that doesn’t guarantee discovery, it does mean success could attract attention quickly; especially in a district as active and well understood as Kalgoorlie.

    There’s also a strategic angle.

Projects close to major operations can become interesting to nearby producers if they demonstrate scale or potential ore feed.

    More than just Kanowna

Kanowna is the near-term catalyst, but Cosmo is not a one-project story. The company also holds a large gold, antimony, and copper portfolio in the New England Orogen of New South Wales.

That includes the Bingara and Nundle projects, covering a large position across historic goldfields with a long mining history but limited modern exploration.

At Bingara, first drilling in more than 30 years at Spring Creek has already returned high-grade gold, including 6m at 9.99g/t gold. The wider project also includes copper-gold-zinc targets and an antimony trend with historic workings and rock chip results.

Nundle adds further exposure to gold and copper, including large-scale intrusive-related targets.

The pair also give Cosmo exposure to antimony, which has become increasingly strategically important in recent times due to its use in defence and specialist industrial applications.

    Re-rate potential?

Cosmo Metals is still a small, early-stage explorer. The company still needs to prove its targets can deliver. But the setup is undeniably attractive:

    • Drilling is underway beside one of Australia’s major gold systems. A deeper government-backed diamond hole is set to follow. And behind that, Cosmo has a broader gold, copper, and antimony portfolio in New South Wales.

At around A$6.5 million, the market is not pricing in much. And that creates leverage to success; if the drill bit delivers, Cosmo could start to look very different very quickly.

For now, it is a small company with good ground, active drilling, and plenty of newsflow ahead. That makes it one to keep firmly on the watchlist in our view.
