Delta Gold Technologies: A Ground-Floor Shot at Solving Quantum Computing’s Biggest Problem

The quantum computing revolution has now arrived. And if it scales the way experts expect, it could reshape everything from drug discovery and AI to global finance and climate modelling.
For now, though, there remains one stubborn bottleneck holding the entire sector back: qubits – the tiny building blocks quantum computers rely on – are far too unstable.
When they heat up even slightly, they break down. And right now, the only way developers can stop this is by locking their machines inside super-refrigerators running just above absolute zero.
That works in a research lab. But it doesn’t work if you want commercial machines, mass deployment, or anything resembling real-world scale.
The global race is therefore on: whoever cracks stable, scalable qubits will unlock the quantum era.
And the newest company to enter that race is Delta Gold Technologies (AQSE:DGQ).
Freshly listed on the Aquis Exchange this week, and with a current market cap of just ÂŁ7.5 million, Delta believes it can harness the unique physical properties of nano-scale gold to stabilise qubits in ways nobody else has yet tried.
With quantum peers trading in the tens of billions, even modest early breakthroughs could move the needle here quickly. So, with this in mind, let’s take a closer look at what Delta is doing, and why it could be so valuable…
Unlocking the quantum revolution
Quantum computing gets wrapped in jargon, but the principle is surprisingly simple: Traditional computers operate in bits – ones and zeros. Quantum computers operate in qubits, which can exist in multiple states at the same time.
That ability allows quantum machines to run countless calculations simultaneously, compressing problems that would take a classical computer months into minutes.
That’s why quantum is expected to transform fields like artificial intelligence, drug development, financial modelling, and climate simulation – frankly, the list is endless.
And it’s also why, according to forecasts from McKinsey, the sector is on track to grow from just $4 billion in 2024 to as much as $72 billion by 2035.
That’s an 18x jump in just over a decade.
But as mentioned already, there’s a catch: today’s qubits are wildly unstable. Heat causes them to stop working, and current systems need fridges with deep space temperatures just to function.
Fine for experiments. Useless for scale.
IBM, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are each throwing billions at the problem. But Delta believes the breakthrough may lie somewhere none of them are currently looking:
Gold. Specifically, gold nanoparticles, or AuNPs.
Due to their unique properties, AuNPs are already playing a key role in improving cutting-edge tech such as biosensing, next-gen solar cells, and advanced photonics. Now, Delta believes those same properties, combined with other advanced materials, can unlock progress in quantum computing by underpinning a more stable, more scalable qubit.
The company is keeping much of the detail under wraps – no surprise, given the IP stakes.
But early work is promising enough that the team is pushing hard. As founder Michael Jones puts it: “We believe nano-scale gold and other material have properties that are orders of magnitude better… to host stable qubits compared to many alternatives.”
That’s a big statement. But the real question is: how do you develop something this ambitious with a small-cap budget?
Partnering with the best
Delta’s answer is simple: collaboration.
The company has signed a three-year research programme with a world-leading nanotechnology and quantum-materials team at the University of Toronto.
The first year – costing C$1 million – is already funded from Delta’s £2.5 million IPO raise. And the goal is to develop materials-based solutions for qubit stability and control with a target for initial patent-protected IP within 12–18 months.
Crucially, Delta retains 100% exclusive licensing rights to any IP created. For a company this early, that’s a powerful position: it cements its exposure to any long-term commercial upside.
Equally important here are the people involved.
Delta’s CEO Michael Jones is a professional engineer with decades of experience founding and scaling technology businesses, including one university-alliance venture that developed battery technology now being commercialised globally.
On the science side, meanwhile, the work is being led by Professor Harry Ruda, one of the world’s most prolific nanotechnology researchers with more than 250 publications and 14 patents.
The pedigree is real. As Jones told StockBox earlier this week, several post-doctoral physicists are already relocating across North America just to join the project.
In other words, the smart people want in. And that’s usually a good sign.
The upside potential
If the technical breakthrough happens, Delta sees two major routes to value:
Licensing its IP: Big quantum players are already spending billions on qubit research. A novel, stable, scalable qubit architecture would be licensed quickly — and for very large sums.
An eventual sale: Quantum companies have already attracted eye-watering deals. Jones points to Oxford Ionics, the Oxford spin-out recently acquired for around $1 billion for its qubit tech.
Whatever route Delta ultimately chooses the potential value on offer if the company is able to generate some genuinely revolutionary IP could be huge.
So, what does that mean for early investors?
Well, right now, Delta trades at 12.25p, having already risen from its 10p list price.
Still, even this only gives Delta a market cap of just ÂŁ7.5 million.
In comparison, the company’s quantum computing peers – companies like IonQ, Rigetti, and D-Wave Quantum – trade in the tens of billions of dollars.
To be clear, we’re not saying Delta will become a multi-billion-pound company overnight.
In fact, it may never reach this point.
What the company does offer right now, though, is true early-stage exposure to a completely new approach in one of the most valuable technological races on earth at a fraction of the valuation of its peers.
And that means the re-rate potential on even a small level of success is significant.
As the research ramps up, as more scientific talent joins, and as early data emerges, more investors will likely start paying attention.
For those looking for a genuine ground-floor opportunity in the quantum space, Delta Gold Technologies is one to watch very closely in the months ahead.
